Free Fishing Weekend

Just a reminder that all Michigan residents and non-residents can fish without a license this Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. Please note all other fishing regulations still apply.

Saturday and Sunday make up the Winter Free Fishing Weekend – an annual effort to encourage folks to get outside to experience Michigan’s winter water wonderland. While many individuals and families will head out to fish for free on their own, the DNR is pleased to share there are numerous organized events scheduled throughout the state to celebrate this weekend as well.

Various counties throughout Michigan will host scheduled events; including Antrim, Bay, Clinton, Gogebic, Ingham, Iron, Monroe, Montcalm, Oakland, Ogemaw, Presque Isle, Roscommon, Tuscola, Van Buren, Washtenaw, Wayne and Wexford. Please note most events are weather dependent.

If you’d like to see all of the events occurring this weekend, visit the official event chart online.

It’s Almost Time

20121113 091923 Its Almost Time

Oh boy! We have a dusting of snow on the ground, the rut is in full swing and the orange army is mobilizing.

Thursday kicks off the most celebrated holiday in Michigan…whitetail gun season. That crazy day when all of us bowhunters will be joined in the woods by 500,000 gun hunters.

I’ll be spending the morning in the stand and then meeting up with Nick Viau from Life and Longbows to prep for Deertour 2012.

It’s gonna be a blast.

Good luck to everyone heading out this week for the gun opener. Be safe and be sure o your target and what is behind.

The Rut is On

20121030 231217 The Rut is On

Well it’s that time of the year again! When the crisp mornings and crunching leaves bring out monster bucks chasing, fighting, grunting and dying.

We’ve been seeing rut activity heating up and the big boys are starting to chase. The next two weeks should be rockin and rolling here in Michigan. Good luck to everyone out there chasing the rut!

See you in the woods!

Seeing Some Rut Activity

Well it looks like the whitetail activity is warming up. Quite a few scrapes and rubs in the woods on our way into the stand tonight. The next few weeks should be killer.

Good luck everyone.

Deer Season Is Rocking

20121016 115430 Deer Season Is Rocking

Well deer season is rockin and rolling here in michigan. We finally got a good frost last week which should take care of the EHD problem. I’ve been hearing of some nice bucks being taken around the state and was lucky to smoke one myself last Sunday.

Good luck to all my fellow hunters out there.

Be Safe and Shoot straight.

And So It Begins

20121004 1855231 And So It Begins

Well welcome to sweet October folks. As I write this I’m on the ground chasing Whitetails for the first time this year. Have a nice button buck 5 yards away from me wanting to get his picture taken for Huntography.

We have been hit really hard with EHD this year down in southwest Michigan so it’s nice to see a live deer.

I wish the best of luck to all my fellow Michigan hunters this season and hope you all have a safe and successful deer season.

If you happen to get that deer of a lifetime please hit me up via my twitter or email listed below and I’ll do my best to share your story up here on huntography (or come film you tell your story).

Shoot straight and have fun!

It’s Panfish Time

20120525 214223 Its Panfish Time

Well turkey season is almost over here in Michigan but lucky for us there are lots of opportunities to chase other game.

The Bluegills are getting hot and heavy on their spawning beds right now which makes for some prime time fishing.

Of course my favorite part about panfish is not how much fun they are to catch but just how tasty they are.

Head to your local lake and hit the shallows over the next few weeks for some non stop panfish action!
